Mark your calendars! The annual Harvest Dinners, one of the most popular events hosted by the Society, will be served on October 21, 22 and 23, 2011. In addition to being a very popular event, Harvest Dinners are a major fund-raiser for our organization. BHS member Helen Haun has graciously consented to head up this year’s event. Thanks so much, Helen!

The Harvest Dinners are served hearth-side in the Harshman and Ankeney log homes at Wartinger Park, making for an enjoyable historical dining atmosphere. Complete details about how and when to make your reservations will be sent in a separate mailing to all members in early September. Several people have already agreed to take reservations, enlist volunteers, serve dinners, etc. We hope that many of you who have helped in the past to make this event so successful will step up again this year to assist in the various tasks that are involved. If you have yet to volunteer to help, but would like to do so, we’ll be happy to have you, too! If you’re interested, please contact Helen at 427-0741 or 776-4755.

Menu:

Main entree: Brunswick Stew (with pork and chicken).
Traditional appetizer of homemade applesauce prepared personally by past chairperson Bob Zimmer.
A salad, homemade bread and sweet potato pie dessert are also included in the meal.

The Master Gardeners will once again be providing autumn decor to dress up the log homes for the event and their contributions are greatly appreciated.
